Creating Your Perfect Rug Through Customization

Customizing a rug might sound like an overwhelming undertaking, but we make the process simple and rewarding at Meredith Heron Collection.

If you have been eyeing one of our rug designs, but there is something about it that doesn’t meet all your needs, we can work with you to customize the rug so that it becomes the perfect rug for you.

We recently had a client who wanted to use our Naoshima rug under a grand piano, but they wanted to add a bit more shimmer to it. Usually, this rug is hand woven using 100% New Zealand wool and done in a 9/25 knot count, but to add the shimmer the client was looking for, we needed to add silk or viscose.

The client landed on viscose and then chose to customize the rug even further by adjusting one of the colors in the rug. We used paint chips to go back and forth until we found the perfect pale yellow, and voila! Our client now has a customized, one-of-a-kind Naoshima rug in their home that perfectly fits their space.

What we love most about this process is the collaboration that holds space for the designer-client relationship—it’s wonderful to be a part of those exciting conversations that ultimately result in rooms and homes that reflect the client’s style.

You can customize one of our existing rugs to suit your needs in three main ways. Let’s break each one down and see how these changes can transform a rug from almost perfect to out-of-this-world amazing.

Color

Most of our rugs are currently available in 1 stocked colorway and 4 custom colorways—but it doesn’t have to end there! Recoloring a rug design is a great way to personalize a style you love with colors you know will work in your space.

Whether you want to change one color or need an entirely new color palette, our Modified Custom Rug program allows you to get creative with color. And we’ll be there every step of the way to guide you through the process.

As mentioned above, we rely on paint chips to help us find the colors that are perfect for you. This allows us to be extremely accurate—you’ll know exactly what you’re getting before it hits to loom!

Size

The majority of Meredith Heron Collection rugs come in three different sizes:

  • 8 x 10
  • 9 x 12
  • 10 x 14

But we understand that all homes are not built the same, and you may need more—or less—rug for a particular room. If your space needs a different-sized rug, we’d love to help you make that a reality.

Materials

The final way to modify a rug is through the materials and fibres used. As I mentioned before, with our custom Naoshima rug, they added a shimmer to the rug using viscose. But you can also make a low-traffic area rug—aka one with a lot of silk or viscose—into a high-traffic rug by switching to 100% New Zealand wool.

Or maybe you are looking for one of our rugs but need a flat weave instead of a Persian weave.

Whatever you need from your rug, our customization options can help you get there. Remember, you don’t have to sacrifice style and luxury for functionality. At Meredith Heron Collection, they co-exist.
