Outdoor Rugs. This Type of Rug Works Best.

What we’ve learned over the past few years is that our outdoor spaces are just as important as our indoor spaces. When push came to shove, there were months on end where our own outdoor spaces were the only refuge we had from working and living in our homes.

And when people started realizing just how important their outdoor space had become, they wanted to make it cozier and inviting. Now, we’re seeing people invest more in those spaces to make them more enjoyable.

So how can you make the most of your outdoor space?

Add an outdoor rug!

It should come as no surprise that we’re suggesting you embrace outdoor textiles and add an outdoor rug. Because what’s more enjoyable than a gorgeous rug underfoot? It’s perfect for anyone that loves to spend the summers outdoors and barefoot!

You might be thinking that adding rugs and other textiles to your outdoor space is a hassle that you don’t want to take on — worrying about keeping them clean and dry doesn’t seem worth it to you. The good news is there are lots of textiles and fabrics that work well for outdoor purposes that are low maintenance, water repellent, and easy to clean.

An outdoor rug makes a huge impact and is one of the best ways to change your space instantly. The visual difference is going to be a real wow factor!

But what rugs work best outdoors?

Simply put, you want a rug with a flat weave so it can stand up to weather conditions.

Our Handsart Key and Tanzania Key rugs are also available as kilims which means they are a flat weave. These rugs come in one stocked colorway and are still made using 100% New Zealand wool.

We can also do any of the kilims in an outdoor fiber — this fiber is a polyester which is great for outside and all the environmental factors that come along with that.

And with so many color options to choose from, there is something that will work in your outdoor space. I love to bring in blues and greens to bring a fun, refreshed energy to your outdoor furniture. We recently completed our Tanzania key in the deep peacock for an outdoor space and it is beyond stunning!

There are other options, too, if you are looking for something a bit different. Any of our geometric patterns work well as flat weaves and can therefore be made as outdoor rugs — think our Ludo Tile and Northstar rugs.

Once you’ve got your rug in place, the sky’s the limit on what magic you can create outdoors.
